I alluded to this a couple posts ago, but may as well make it official: this blog is being shuttered. There’s just not enough hours in the week.
Also — I’ll admit it, I’m disheartened. The way the men’s basketball team seemed to not give a damn at stretches last season was depressing. The five UB women’s basketball commits de-committing bummed me out. The coaching shuffle on the football staff doesn’t scream long-term stability, and Coach Mo is probably another bowl game away from greener pastures himself. The NIL situation seems destined to keep Buffalo sports firmly in the messy middle of college sports, forced to reinvent rosters in football and hoops year after year. And, on top of all of this, living in Virginia and trying to build Buffalo relationships is more work than I can handle with a demanding day job and a wife who, you know, wants me to be available for the occasional conversation. Fair enough.
None of this will keep me from tracking the Bulls as a fan, but as a quasi-media-entity, it lost the joy sometime around February this season. I’ll leave it to the pros, I guess, but that doesn’t look particularly promising, either, given the media environment in Buffalo. God bless you, Rachel Lenzi. The Buffalo News you work for is not the one that I was lucky to be a part of from 2006 to 2013.
Thank you to everyone who subscribed, and to everyone who read, and to everyone who engaged on social media. This project was a lot of fun.
Horns up to a brighter future. Go Bulls. Buffalo for life.
